Labra-Doctor
By Ann Chiappetta

He stands by the closed gate
A loyal sentry
Patient, gentle
Welcoming visitors into the sanctuary.

He offers the ball
Like a handshake or embrace
Tail swaying,
elicits a smile, eases the disclosing;
in moments
this creature
whisks away pretense
For the client in the chair.
